Franklin University, a leading educator of working adults, is pleased to announce its re-designation as a National Center of Academic Excellence in Cyber Defense (CAE-CD) through the academic year 2029. This recognition, awarded by the National Security Agency (NSA) and the Department of Homeland Security (DHS), highlights Franklin's commitment to advancing cybersecurity education and its significant contributions to the field.

The CAE-CD designation underscores the rigorous standards Franklin’s Cybersecurity programs meet in addressing critical workforce needs. Franklin first received this prestigious designation in 2019 for its Bachelor of Science in Cybersecurity program, followed by the 2024 validation of its Master of Science in Cybersecurity. Both programs emphasize practical, industry-relevant knowledge designed to prepare students for high-demand cybersecurity roles.

“This re-designation as a National Center of Academic Excellence in Cyber Defense reflects the dedication of our faculty, staff, and students,” shared Dr. Denise Bergstrom, program chair for Cybersecurity (AS, BS, MS), Computing Sciences and Mathematics. “Achieving this prestigious recognition is a rigorous and collaborative process involving months of effort across multiple departments. It not only highlights the excellence of our cybersecurity programs but also opens valuable career opportunities and streamlines employment pathways for our students entering the cybersecurity field.”

Franklin University’s Center for Public Safety and Cybersecurity Education continues to serve as a hub for training while fostering collaboration and delivering critical resources to strengthen the nation's cybersecurity infrastructure.

As a member of the National CyberWatch Center, Franklin aligns with leading institutions to shape the future of cybersecurity education and workforce development. This re-designation reaffirms the University’s leadership and commitment to producing skilled professionals equipped to combat evolving cyber threats.
