We Salute Our Spring 2026 Graduates

Franklin University’s 182nd Commencement Ceremony (May 31st) honors the achievements of 1227 graduates, who represent 47 states and 26 countries.

Earning a degree is a significant accomplishment – and doing so while balancing family, work and other life commitments make this milestone even more meaningful. While the diploma certifies our graduates’ new-found knowledge and skills, it is also a testament to the abilities they relied on to reach the finish line – hard work, dedication, and perseverance.

Graduating Student Speaker
 

Jamie Welsh

Jamie Lorraine Welsh is a senior organizational development consultant at Nationwide Children’s Hospital, where she partners with leaders and teams to strengthen culture, leadership and collaboration across a complex healthcare environment. With more than 25 years of professional experience, she specializes in leadership development, team effectiveness and organizational engagement. Jamie is known for seeing the potential in every person she serves and approaching her work with deep compassion and a genuine commitment to helping others succeed. She holds a bachelor’s degree from Franklin and today is receiving her master’s in business psychology.

Outstanding Graduation Honorees

 

Dr. Lan Montler

Dr. Lan Montler is an experienced analytics and marketing strategist with a career spanning financial services, insurance and academia. Lan leads data-driven initiatives in customer insights, marketing measurement and business analytics, building on previous roles at Nationwide and JPMorgan Chase. As she completes her Doctor of Business Administration, focused on corporate strategy and employee well-being, she draws on deep expertise in qualitative and quantitative methodologies to solve business problems and inform strategic decisions. By integrating research on mass media, consumer behavior, communication processes and corporate strategies with applied analytics, her background blends scholarly rigor with practical impact.

Dawn Turnage

Master of Public Administration graduate Dawn Turnage is the assistant director of Youth Development for the Columbus Recreation and Parks Department, where she leads initiatives focused on youth programming, workforce development, violence intervention and community engagement. With nearly three decades of cross-sector experience in social services, criminal justice and municipal government, she previously served the city of Youngstown, Ohio, as director of Parks and Recreation and as an elected official on the Youngstown City School Board. A stroke survivor and advocate with the American Heart Association, Dawn is committed to advancing public service and expanding equitable opportunities for youth, families and communities. 

Michael Carson

Michael Carson is a project manager specializing in new product implementation for Reynolds and Reynolds, a global leader in dealership management systems. He supports the release and implementation of digital products for retail operations, customer communication platforms and enterprise process automation. With knowledge gained at Franklin through his B.S. Management + Leadership, he applies structured problem-solving and cross-departmental collaboration to advance project objectives. His work emphasizes strategic execution, stakeholder communication and team coordination to deliver software solutions that support customers worldwide.

Bailey Award Winners

 

Dr. Gayle DeGennaro

Dr. Gayle DeGennaro chairs Franklin’s undergraduate information systems program. She teaches graduate courses in database management, systems analysis and design, and serves as faculty advisor for Doctor of Business Administration (DBA) students. Her teaching philosophy emphasizes collaborative learning and helping students develop confidence in working with data. In her 29 years at Franklin, Dr. DeGennaro has worked in and collaborated with nearly every department, an experience that informs her teaching through a strong understanding of how business operations and technology work together. She has spent much of her professional career in information technology, managing enterprise data systems, business software and systems integrations. Dr. DeGennaro holds an MBA from Capital University and a DBA from Franklin and is currently completing a master’s degree in analytics.

Bryan Buoni

An instructor at Franklin for 19 years, Bryan Buoni currently teaches psychology courses and is an advocate for the transformative power of education and the critical role of psychology in modern organizational success. Bryan’s teaching style is defined by a commitment to mentoring adult learners and integrating real-world behavioral insights into the curriculum. By leveraging his background in competency-based hiring and conflict resolution, he strives to provide students with a practical framework for understanding human dynamics in professional settings. From his current role as the executive director of human resources for Dublin City Schools, as well as previous HR leadership experience in K-12 education, Bryan brings a wealth of practical expertise to his students.

Doctoral Achievements: Dissertations & Scholarly Projects

Taking on a doctoral program is no easy task – as any doctoral student will tell you. This trimester, 22 determined Franklin doctoral students crossed a finish line that statistically only 2% of the world’s population ever will. Over the course of their studies, they advanced their knowledge, solved real world challenges and made significant contributions to their disciplines. It was our honor and privilege to support them.

The Alumni Award for Social Impact

Dr. Angela Brake is a purpose-driven leader who believes meaningful impact happens where strategy, service and community intersect. Her career spans corporate, education and nonprofit sectors – each chapter shaping her ability to build systems, cultivate leaders, and move missions forward with intention and heart.

Angela, who earned her Doctor of Professional Studies in Instructional Design Leadership from Franklin,  has led organizational and workforce initiatives at Goodyear and Akron Public Schools, strengthening training, operations and engagement across diverse teams. Her leadership foundation was further shaped at Emmanuel Christian Academy, where she learned the power of culture-building, servant leadership and doing meaningful work with limited resources and unlimited vision.

As the director of operations for Limitless Ambition, Angela has championed leadership development, mentoring and community-building, helping individuals and organizations translate potential into action. Her work with Girl Scouts of Northeast Ohio reflects her commitment to developing future leaders and creating equitable pathways for girls to grow in confidence, skills and courage.

Angela’s commitment to community leadership extends deeply into board service and governance. She currently serves on and supports boards for the Zonta Club of Akron, Barberton and Cuyahoga Falls; the Women’s Endowment Fund; Hope and Healing Survivor Resource Center; LITE; Project Grad; and the Goodyear Heights Community Development Committee. Through this work, she contributes strategic insight, fundraising leadership and mission stewardship to organizations advancing equity, education, safety and community revitalization.
