Franklin University, one of the leading educators of working adults, is pleased to share a significant achievement within its academic community. Dr. Kelly Renner, chair for Psychology & Social Sciences and director of the Prison Education System, has been honored with a prestigious Fulbright Specialist Grant. This grant enabled Dr. Renner to extend her expertise and research acumen as she embarked on a transformative journey at Marmara University Faculty of Sport Science in Turkey.

As a guest lecturer, Dr. Renner helped educate undergraduate and graduate learners on “Inclusive Teaching Practices” and “Burnout Research,” underscoring her dedication to advancing educational methodologies and promoting mental health awareness and motivation. As a Fulbright Specialist, Dr. Renner fostered cross-cultural exchange, forging valuable partnerships domestically and internationally. Through an array of educational initiatives and training endeavors, she contributed to the global dialogue on education, leaving an indelible mark on the landscape of academia.

During her six-week grant tenure, Dr. Renner also provided mentorship opportunities, engaging directly with graduate students with a focused interest in sports psychology, psychology, and mental wellness. Through these meaningful interactions, she imparted her wealth of expertise while also instilling an international perspective, enriching the academic experience, and broadening the horizons of ambitious scholars.

“It was inspiring to witness professors and college students so dedicated to teaching and learning on a global scale,” shared Dr. Renner. “Marmara University, Fenerbahçe University, Galata University, and Üsküdar University work diligently to ensure their students learn not only from their own highly qualified professors, but also from other experts around the world, by graciously welcoming guest lecturers and engaging in insightful conversation. It was an honor to play a small role in these students' educational experience and collaborate with the esteemed faculty.”

Dr. Renner is one of over 400 U.S. citizens who share their expertise with host institutions abroad through the Fulbright Specialist Program each year. Recipients of Fulbright Specialist awards are selected on the basis of academic and professional achievement, demonstrated leadership in their field, and their potential to foster long-term cooperation between institutions in the U.S. and abroad.

The Fulbright Program is the flagship international educational exchange program sponsored by the U.S. government and is designed to build lasting connections between the people of the United States and the people of other countries. The Fulbright Program is funded through an annual appropriation made by the U.S. Congress to the U.S. Department of State. Participating governments and host institutions, corporations, and foundations around the world also provide direct and indirect support to the Program, which operates in over 160 countries worldwide.
Since its establishment in 1946, the Fulbright Program has given more than 400,000 students, scholars, teachers, artists, and scientists the opportunity to study, teach and conduct research, exchange ideas, and contribute to solutions to shared international concerns.
