Franklin University Honors Outstanding Faculty in Service and Teaching

Franklin University proudly announces its 2022-2023 Lead Faculty and Honorable Mention recipients, Dr. Nimet Alpay and Dr. Evan Chaloupka. The annual recognition is bestowed by the Franklin University Faculty Personnel Committee, under the auspices of the Franklin University Faculty Senate, to honor an outstanding full-time faculty member having lead faculty responsibilities such as course management, adjunct faculty management, and teaching. Honorees are chosen from nominations solicited from full-time and adjunct faculty.

Dr. Nimet Alpay, Program Chair, MS Data Analytics Program
2022-2023 Lead Faculty of the Year Award Recipient

Dr. Nimet Alpay holds a Ph.D. in Mathematics from Michigan State University and two BSc degrees from Middle East Technical University, one in Mathematics and one in Mathematics Education. She has a long experience working with adult students before coming to Franklin University, both at the University of Detroit Mercy and at Columbus State Community College. She appreciates and admires the amount of work and dedication the adult students have to present to walk through their years in college education. She has been a faculty member at Franklin University since July 2013. Dr. Alpay is also the founding chair of the Data Analytics and Business Analytics master's programs at Franklin. Besides working with her students and colleagues here at Franklin, Dr. Alpay has also been involved in the community. She has been active in interfaith work in Columbus. She also serves as a faculty ambassador for the Women In Analytics Conference, a rapidly growing group nationally and internationally.

Dr. Evan Chaloupka, Program Chair, Writing
Honorable Mention 

Dr. Evan Chaloupka directs the Franklin University writing program. His scholarship examines the relationship between cognitive disabilities and narrative dynamics across literary, scientific, and social contexts. He holds a Ph.D. in English from Case Western Reserve University and an M.A. from the University of Akron. Dr. Chaloupka has taught composition, technical writing, rhetoric, and literature courses at institutions ranging from Lakeland Community College to the University of Pennsylvania. His work has been published in Literature and Medicine, The Journal of Narrative Theory, and Disability & Society, among other venues.

"Evan demonstrates exemplary leadership and management of his adjunct team. Through regular meetings and other communication, Evan ensures each of his team understands their responsibilities regarding teaching, and he uses these opportunities for collaboration and feedback on course development. Moreover, Evan allows adjuncts to have input regarding resources and application of the course content, which fosters agency, collegiality, and pedagogical development with the adjunct staff."
