Profile

Dr. Brenda L. Jones is the Program Chair for the BS in Communications program and is Department Chair for Communications, Behavioral, and Natural Sciences. Brenda has been a full-time Franklin faculty member since December 2007. Internationally, she has taught in Poland, Oman, Trinidad and Tobago, and South Korea. Her classes have included undergraduate communication courses, MBA Foundations (MBA 707), Applied Marketing & Communication Theory (MCM 731), and the Master's in Business Psychology course Innovation and Creativity (PSYC 607). Her teaching style is that of a coach and mentor, inviting learners to be co-constructors of knowledge and the learning experience as they develop career-relevant skills. Brenda earned a Ph.D. in Organizational Communication, with a minor in Industrial and Organizational Psychology, from The Ohio State University. Brenda also holds an MS in Business Psychology and an MA in Communication and worked for two international companies, ITW-Nifco and Electronic Data Systems, before pursuing a career in higher education. A passionate educator, Brenda was named a 2019-20 SOCHE Excellence Award winner by the Southern Ohio Council for Higher Education for her work in project-based learning, connecting course-based learning with community needs through integrated communications projects. Brenda was also awarded the Robert L. Bailey award for graduate teaching in fall of 2019, an honor based on graduating student nominations for the faculty member that has had the most significant impact on their educational experience.
