Profile

Dr. Gail Baumlein is a seasoned educator with a varied background in nursing and healthcare education.  She joined Franklin University in January, 2011. She has been a nurse for over 39 years, and in academia for more than 30 years, holding multiple positions in clinical practice and academia. She has practiced in a variety of areas. She has a passion for education, and loves teaching, mentoring, and online learning. Her research interests include teaching online, outcomes assessment, and faculty mentoring. During the course of her career, she has had the opportunity to be part of developing a number of new programs and colleges of nursing. Her publications include articles and book chapters related to teaching and learning. Dr. Baumlein has presented over 100 offerings at local, national, and international venues. She has served as a consultant in several areas related to education, including active teaching strategies, use of technology and online learning, program development, accreditation and site visit preparation, virtual simulation and gamification, and faculty mentoring. Throughout her career she has been honored to have been recognized by peers and organizations. She was awarded the Distinguished Alumni Award from the University Of Akron College of Nursing for outstanding contributions in nursing education. She has been designated to receive the Excellence in Service award, as well as the Excellence in Teaching award by the Ohio League for Nursing. Dr. Baumlein was honored to be inducted into the inaugural class of Fellows of the Academy of Nursing Education. She has also been recognized with an Excellence Award by Nursing Spectrum. She was elected to serve on the National League for Nursing Board of Governors, as well as the Ohio League for Nursing Board of Governors, and is active in a number of professional organizations.
