Our Academic Advisors
Franklin employs professional staff advisors who work with undergraduate and graduate students from their first term through graduation. Doctoral students will work with a professional staff advisor and faculty advisor. Students can find their advisor information by logging into their myFranklin and locating the “Your Advisors” button in the left-hand menu.
Advising Mission Statement
Franklin University's academic advising is accessible, timely, and student centered. Using an integrated approach, our professional advisors advocate for and encourage students as they attain personal and educational goals. In collaboration with the University community, we teach our students to connect with available resources in order to foster a culture of success.
Advising Expectations
Advisors expect students to…
- Stay in contact at least once a term. Be proactive by reaching out for assistance in a timely manner.
- Participate fully in the advising experience by being prepared for advising appointments. This is your time to ask questions and share goals with your advisor.
- Take responsibility for the decisions and actions that impact your education.
- Understand registration deadlines, academic requirements, academic resources and university policies and procedures.
- Check your Franklin student email and Canvas inbox frequently. Communication is a vital part of your advising and student experience at Franklin.
Students can expect advisors to…
- Create a trusting environment through active listening while supporting and developing your self-advocacy, decision making and accountability.
- Answer questions related to individual student goals and concerns.
- Understand academic requirements, degree progression and university policies and procedures.
- Discuss academic performance and implications.
- Share resources and university support when necessary.
Advising Appointments
Schedule time with your academic advisor to:
- Register for courses
- Make schedule adjustments
- Discuss updating your academic program (major, minor, certificate)
- Create a degree plan
- Prepare for graduation
- Review your transfer credit
Advisor appointment calendars fill up quickly during peak advising periods. For time sensitive inquiries such as dropping a course or current class concerns, please email your academic advisor.

Tips for scheduling your advising appointment:
- Remember to select a service (phone, virtual or in person) for calendar availability to load.
- Use the notes section to include detailed information on why you scheduled your appointment.
- For time sensitive inquires such as dropping a course or current class concerns, please email your academic advisor.
A confirmation email is sent immediately after booking an appointment. You can reschedule or cancel your appointment through your confirmation email. You can also call our mainline at 877.341.6300 to schedule, reschedule or cancel an appointment.
A reminder email is sent 24 hours prior to your appointment day and time.
Maintain a productive, professional relationship with your advisor by preparing for your appointment:
- Add your scheduled appointment to your calendar, just as you would any other professional meeting.
- Show up on time: have your phone ready, log in early to virtual appointments or arrive on campus with adequate time to park and check in at the Welcome Center.
- Find a distraction-free and quiet meeting space where your attention can be given to the meeting.
- Bring a list of questions, concerns or topics you want to discuss.
- Have additional information ready to share such as your community college schedule, scheduling preferences and priorities e.g. planned vacations, military deployment, graduation goals, etc.
