About the Certified Phlebotomy Technician Professional Online Certificate
As a Certified Phlebotomy Technician, you will have the important role of helping patients receive proper care and treatment by gathering blood and non-blood specimens. These specimens are then tested to see how medicine is working, check patients’ nutrition, diagnose illness and more. After gaining Phlebotomy certification, you may work in clinical laboratories, hospitals, community health centers, nursing homes, doctor’s offices, blood donation centers and other healthcare facilities.
You’ll complete three courses: Professionalism in Allied Health, Intro to Human Anatomy, and Medical Terminology and Phlebotomy in 12 weeks. Upon completion of the MedCerts program, you’ll be equipped to sit for the Certified Phlebotomy Technician (CPT) exam, issued through the NHA (National Healthcareer Association), and begin your healthcare career.

The curriculum also includes an overview of anatomy and physiology in order to increase the understanding of medical vocabulary. Phlebotomy is a comprehensive course with insight and focus on specimen collection for diagnostic testing in the healthcare facility, providing foundational knowledge required of an allied healthcare professional. Video-based lessons include fundamentals of phlebotomy with emphasis on infection control, safety, communication skills, patient care and preparation, venipuncture equipment and supplies, specimen collection, handling, transport and processing. In this course, students are exposed to a variety of eLearning elements that allow for hands-on interaction with the screen for an engaging education. Simulations will provide the student opportunities to practice key phlebotomy skills performed in a medical facility. Many states have licensing or certification requirements for those performing the role of a Phlebotomist.
