Happy Veterans Day from Franklin University
November 4, 2024
Veterans Day is a time to honor all American veterans who have served in the armed forces, regardless of when or where they served. It is a day to thank you for your sacrifices and service to our country. Did you know that Veterans Day, originally known as Armistice Day, was established to honor the end of World War I? The armistice, or agreement to stop fighting, was signed on Monday, Nov. 11, 1918. In 1938, Armistice Day became a federal holiday, primarily honoring veterans of WWI and celebrating peace.
In 1954, the holiday was expanded to honor all American veterans. The name was changed to Veterans Day and has been celebrated on Nov. 11 ever since. This change reflected the growing number of veterans from World War II and the Korean War. Now, we continue to honor the new generation of Veterans who served in the Vietnam, the Persian Gulf, Afghanistan and Iraq Wars.
We sincerely thank you for your service and hope you have a Happy Veterans Day. As always, you can connect with us by emailing omva@franklin.edu.
